Make ChatGPT only add to memory when asked

When ChatGPT’s memory feature was added, it was great until I discovered the limit to how much it could store. I understand the reasoning behind this limit and this isn’t about the limit specifically, but moreso how ChatGPT insists on using the memory.

However, it annoys me how ChatGPT takes it upon itself to add useless things to its memory just because it’s something that might still be “in progress”, when that’s not something ChatGPT actually needs to remember anyway. I could even tell it that there’s one thing left I’m going to do now and get finished, and it will still make a new memory.

I’d much rather if ChatGPT just didn’t remember anything unless explicitly asked, instead of needing memory just to be told it’s full because it has nonsense from 2 months ago that never needed remembering by ChatGPT in the first place.
