Let the AI help me navigate the chat history

As a user, I want to ask the AI to take me directly to a part of the chat so that I don’t have to scroll and look for it. I would somehow explain what I’m looking for, like “take me to the first time I pasted this function” or “take me to where you explained this concept”.

The AI would either:
a) Have a separate button and/or text field for this feature
b) Navigate me upon detecting such inquiry
c) Prompt me for navigation upon detecting such inquiry

I think c) has the least overhead and/or undesired effects. It would also allow the AI to suggest multiple chat locations with extracts if multiple are found. Preferably these would be clickable as an option to responding.

As an upgrade, this feature could also help me navigate multiple chats, when I don’t even remember in which chat the desired content was posted.

If the usefulness of this feature is unclear, enhanced navigation is useful because:

  1. Conversations are becoming project workspaces
  2. Chats are turning into long-term knowledge bases
  3. Scrolling is becoming an information architecture problem

Thank you

Thanks for flagging this. I can see how this would be useful, especially as chats get longer and start becoming more like project workspaces or knowledge bases.

Being able to ask ChatGPT to find and jump back to a specific part of a conversation would definitely make navigation easier than manually scrolling through everything.

I’ll pass this along to the team as feedback.
