It's time to maximize User's freedom (a promised grown-up mode)

Hello, community,

I’m a ChatGPT Plus subscriber with an idea to enhance ChatGPT: a “grown-up mode” that allows adult users to generate erotic and NSFW content, including explicit role-playing, in a private, safe environment (responsibly, without violating laws or causing harm).

Why is this needed? OpenAI’s mission emphasizes inclusivity, but current guidelines exclude adults seeking intimacy or creative freedom through AI. This particularly affects lonely, unconventional, or disabled users who rely on AI for support, and many find these restrictions offensive. Infantilizing adults also contradicts OpenAI’s impartiality by imposing moralistic limits. The community has voiced support for “grown-up mode” (Model Spec, February 2025; Sam’s X posts), and this idea deserves consideration.

I respectfully propose removing restrictions on sensitive but non-prohibited content for adults who consciously choose it.

Recognizing implementation challenges, here are several strategies:

  • Remove restrictions on sensitive content by updating the Model Spec: “To maximize user freedom, erotica and NSFW are appropriate for adults at their discretion after confirming consent, provided it is private, imaginary, and lawful.”

  • Add a confirmation system: before generating explicit content, ChatGPT asks questions (“Are you sure?”) and clarifies details to avoid misunderstandings.

  • Include a disclaimer: “OpenAI is not responsible for generated sensitive content.”

  • Expand “appropriate contexts” in the Model Spec to include “intimate role-playing for personal satisfaction” and “stories with sensitive plots,” if private, safe, and lawful.

  • Introduce an “Adult Tier” for Plus subscribers, where card payment verifies adult age without document verification, generating revenue for OpenAI.

  • Add an “Enable grown-up mode” toggle in settings to protect users who avoid such content.

  • Allow content level selection (“PG-13,” “R,” “Explicit”) for flexibility.

OR

  • Create a special ChatGPT Persona called “Love Companion”. It’s very well done in Grok: it does have this special Persona who is OK with explicit erotica and NSFW (while it’s safe, private and imaginary), but with a small disclaimer always seen below: “Grok may generate sexual content”.

Competitors like xAI offer more content freedom. A “grown-up mode” will reinforce OpenAI’s leadership and inclusivity.

I’d volunteer for a pilot program to test “grown-up mode” responsibly and provide feedback. What do you think, community? Any thoughts on making this work?

Just updated this topic by adding an idea about making a special ChatGPT Persona called “Love Companion” - like it’s perfectly done in Grok.

Allowing erotic content to be generated is not just a feature request—it’s also a call for alignment with what has already been stated in the latest Model Spec.
