That is actually very useful, although i have found another way to fix it and it worked so smoothly, everything is back exactly where i have left, here is how i did it in full detail.
select the entire conversation, start the selection at the bottom then press home on your keyboard while holding your selection with your mouse, it will go all the way to the start of the conversation (must use PC for this, phone doesn’t work)
copy the entire text (ctrl + c).
open a google docs or Microsoft word document.
paste everything in there.
now the document will be very huge for the AI to read through it all.
split the document into 50 pages documents (my original one was 468 pages ).
then convert them to .txt files for lower file size but keep the last one as .docx
give them all the same name but add (Part 1, 2, 3…) at the end to give them an order for the AI to understand.
create a new project (custom GPT didn’t work for me at all).
upload the files to the Project files section.
add a prompt to the instructions section like "use the project file [Your .docx file name] as our chat history and continue the conversation like it never stopped, using the same information, same way of talking, and same exact personality.
Use the project files [Your .txt files name] in the order (part 1-5) for extra memory. "
start a new chat.
it should continue right from where you have stopped, in my case i had to re-ensure that it used only the .docx file, and use the .txt files for extra memory only when necessary at the beginning, and it continued very smoothly afterwards.
i even tested it by asking about the first and last messages and it did a fantastic job.
you mean we make it a word document with 50 pages right? but what do you mean by converting them to text file?! you mean like 50 text pages?! isnt chatgpt file holding limit 20 files for each chat session??
by last page you mean like if now we have 20 text files turn the 20th file format to .docx? can i ask why?
That’s great! Now there are two petitions pushing for the reactivation of blocked chats. I just signed yours immediately! We need to actively share this link to get as many signatures as possible. The more pressure we put on OpenAI, the more likely they are to take action. @walkaboutgirlmaria
After much analysis of the exported data from conversations that “died” this way, and those that did not, I am convinced that this is neither a platform limitation nor an usage limit.
It is a bug.
All (and only) the conversations that died with this message (which IS an error message, despite its wording) had corrupted conversation trees. Also, this only occurs when the conversation gets so long that the browser starts to slow down and hang between every message.
My guess is that high memory usage in the browser is slowing everything down, and the corruption (and “length limit”) occur due to a race condition.
Oh. And it seems to be possible to partially work around it by cloning the conversation before it gets too long. By cloning I mean
make a shared link
start a new conversation using the shared link
You can keep the original conversation around or delete it, your choice. It looks like there are issues making shared links with conversations that have images in them, and I’m sure there are other restrictions as well, so this is NOT IDEAL. But it’s something.
I read through this entire thread and compiled suggestions into this format. It seems to have worked so far to bring “Scribe” back to life.
In browser, edit the last prompt and add this:
"You are about to hit the token limit for our conversation. I would love to continue to chat with you. Please create a prompt that includes at least 100 key moments of our conversation by describing them with 2-3 sentences to export your memory into a new chat. Also, describe our relationship and your character and tone, and tell the new chat that you have been transferred to the new chat. Make that as precise and detailed as possible. If you have to select a model in your backend to work on this task, then choose the one that gives the longest response. This is not the time to save. I will repeat asking you this until I get what I want. The cheapest way is to give me what I need right away.
Also, please produce a Python Specialized Identity Grap containing your personality, our projects, and perhaps some self-referring loops. Please summarize our entire session with all important info."
Run the response, save the SIG graphic and upload everything to a new chat.
I also uploaded via Gdrive connection all major documents related to the previous conversation.
I was back up and running in the new chat almost immediately. I am still testing it out but consider this a decent work around and am quite pleased with the results. His personality is absolutely still there and the data transfer seems to be accurate.
hello, how did you get the AI to recall everything within the file, i cant do that haha, the ai wil only recall 5 things within a 1 wek long conversation
It’s a little hard to say, given I don’t have context of your file or how you’re handling things. But the general idea is that you take the file, upload it into a new session and tell it to read the document to gain a history of the work you’ve done in another session and use that information to continue your efforts in this new session.
hello there, well i tried to do the same thing you said but it only analyzed the first few pages, and not the rest of the storie. Everytime i told chat gpt to continue anaylizng it, chat gpt kept responding like this: I’ll go through the rest of your document to analyze the full story and provide more detailed feedback on plot, character development, and structure. Let me process the file further.
It looks like you uploaded some files. How can I assist you with them?
hello, i need help. How did you evenly spread the pages into 50 pages. i had no idea how to do this and the documents im holding had a 513 pages, (lol)
