Image generation API not enabled on billing-enabled account

Hello OpenAI team,

My OpenAI account has active billing enabled and text-based APIs are working correctly.
However, image generation using the API (model: gpt-image-1) is not available.

In the dashboard, Usage → Images shows 0 requests / 0 images, and there is no option to enable image generation.
My backend implementation is ready and returns an error when calling the image generation endpoint.

Use case: AI-generated informational image cards via API.

Could you please confirm how image generation access can be enabled for this account?

Have you tried using the gpt-image-1.5 API?

I and many others use it all the time.

There is somewhat deceptive language on that page, “with some subject to organization verification” meaning “denied unless you submit government ID, facial scan videos, the 3rd party verification works, and doesn’t instead result in your organization being shut off”.
