I think in the future that ChatGPT should be able to remember other conversation threads and all the topics that were talked about in them. I think it would be much easier and it will make it easier to talk to and it would be cool if I can bring up anything I talked to them with before in a different conversation thread from the one where the topics were discussed
Probably but for now, you can ask to " remember" certain things that you consider more important. While may not remember all conversations will remember the important things at least.
Hi @slumberslothfurby and welcome to the community!
ChatGPT has a “memory” feature that you can enable (read more here). It’s not super clear “how” it works, but what it seems to do is “mark and summarize” certain key features in your conversations. For example, if you are using ChatGPT for C++ programming in VSCode, it will “mark” that you are a “C++ programmer” and that you “use VSCode”. This will impact future conversations.
I have noticed the impact and actually turned the memory off - the nature of my “conversations” are more transient and less fluid, and I found that memory “pollutes” the responses. But for others that are using it for more specific and long-running projects (e.g. mostly for programming, writing essays, etc), it could be very beneficial.
Yes I am aware of the memory feature but with my luck it’s been filled up already
Yeah that seems good for now
Indeed, however, there are usually two intelligences in an interaction. If one of the interaction partners “lacks” memory, the other can step in
@slumberslothfurby In the case of ChatGPT, I have been working with segmentation prompts for a long time as a “reminder aid”
Works efficiently, especially across chat histories.
