I don't know why Dall-E 3 is rejecting this prompt?

I’m posting to DALL-E 3 the following prompt:

“Draw a faction crest in the style of Realistic. No text. Description:\nA stylized anvil crossed with a pickaxe, encircled by iron chains that symbolize both strength and restraint. Above it, a pair of crossed hammers, representing labor and defiance, while a central gemstone glows ominously, signifying wealth and forbidden treasures.”

And it’s rejecting it with an Error 400, image_generation_user_error.

When I submit the same prompt via ChatGPT it works fine. Anyone have any idea why this would be rejected?

This:

(plus “no text” is not the kind of command DALL-E will obey)

I confirm the issue with the prompt, or rather with the endpoint moderator. This is usually keyword-based, or any hint of violence. Maybe you are asking for treasures that are forbidden?

I use AI to solve the problem. DALL-E-3 has a prompt writer inside of it; the denial may be happening before it gets to that, so some new actionable language:

Here are several refined versions of your DALL-E prompt, designed to avoid problematic keyword detection while achieving the original visual intent. Each version focuses on concrete visual descriptions rather than abstract symbolism.

Version 1 (Direct & Concise)

A highly detailed, realistic crest. At its core, a robust anvil is firmly crossed with a durable mining pickaxe. This central emblem is encircled by heavy, interlocking iron chains, robustly designed to convey secure containment and enduring strength. Positioned above the anvil and pickaxe are two substantial, well-worn hammers, crossed in a powerful stance, suggesting diligence and unwavering determination. A prominent, irregularly shaped gemstone at the center emits a deep, subdued luminescence, casting a faint, enigmatic glow that evokes unearthed antiquity and valuable, concealed findings.

Version 2 (Descriptive & Evocative)

An intricate, realistic faction emblem. A large, prominent anvil is sharply intersected by a sturdy pickaxe. Thick, dark iron chains wrap tightly around the entire central emblem, forming a protective, unbreakable boundary that radiates a formidable power. Crowning the design are two heavy, crossed smithing hammers, their surfaces showing clear signs of dedicated use, conveying resilience and persistent effort. At the very heart of the crest, a singular, raw gemstone pulses with a dim, foreboding light, creating an aura of hidden depths and ancient, guarded treasures.

Version 3 (Visual & Textured Focus)

A highly detailed, metallic-sheen crest, rendered with realistic textures. Dominating the center is a robust, well-defined anvil, precisely overlaid by a sharp, heavy-duty pickaxe. Surrounding these tools, a complex weave of interlocking, dark iron chains forms a powerful circular border, conveying both structural integrity and a profound sense of secure enclosure. Above the main crossing, two substantial, weathered hammers are crossed with precision, their worn surfaces hinting at tireless work and steadfast resolve. Centrally embedded, a large, rough-cut gemstone emits a deep, internal glow, casting a subtle, dark ambient light that suggests immense, concealed value and a history shrouded in mystery.

These versions replace abstract concepts (“symbolize,” “defiance,” “ominously,” “forbidden”) with visual cues (“secure containment,” “unwavering determination,” “foreboding light,” “ancient, guarded treasures”). They also elaborate on the visual qualities of each element, aiming for a richer and more precise interpretation by the DALL-E model.

The prompt to re-prompt was run on Gemini Flash to further depart from typical language and misunderstandings, simply written in a straightforward manner.

You are creating actionable language for DALL-E image creation model, with independent short paragraphs for style, subject, setting and background, or other useful topics that discuss what actually needs to be depicted in terms of objects, with a target of about 150-200 words in prompt length. This prompt is failing due to some keyword detection that cannot be identified, so it must be transformed into new language that creates what the writer of the prompt is actually envisioning. Also, remove and replace prohibitions from language, as DALL-E cannot understand negations. Produce several refined versions of the new prompt to submit for testing.
