How am I supposed to know what ChatGPT can actually do?

Earlier I posted about how regular users shouldn’t need to test different platforms and modes just to figure out where a ChatGPT feature is available.

But there’s another side to that problem:

How am I supposed to discover that a feature exists in the first place?

ChatGPT has become much more than a chat box.

There are Projects, Tasks, Deep Research, Agent, Work, Codex, Apps / Plugins, and many other capabilities — and new ones keep being added or changed.

But as a regular user, I often discover these things by:

  • randomly noticing a new button;

  • seeing someone else use it;

  • reading news about ChatGPT;

  • asking ChatGPT about its own features;

  • searching Help Center;

  • reading release notes;

  • or somehow ending up in the Developer Community. :joy:

At some point I have to ask:

Do I need to follow ChatGPT release notes just to know what the product I already use can do?

I’d like a real “What can ChatGPT do?” page

Not a marketing page describing ChatGPT in general.

I mean a page inside ChatGPT, based on what is actually available to my account.

Something like:

Available to you

  • Deep Research

  • Agent

  • Tasks

  • Projects

  • Work

  • Codex

  • Apps / Plugins

  • etc.

New for you

  • Features recently added to my account

  • Features that recently changed

  • Capabilities I have access to but haven’t tried yet

And when I open a feature, I don’t need documentation written for developers.

Just tell me:

What is this?
When would I use it?
How do I start?
Where is it available?

That’s enough.

ChatGPT is becoming increasingly capable, which is great.

But users shouldn’t have to actively research the product just to discover those capabilities.

Regular users aren’t developers. We shouldn’t need to study product documentation, release notes, and rollout information just to understand what the ChatGPT we already have access to can do.

I tried the forum’s Summarize feature on this post itself. The summary was accurate overall, but some details, emphasis, and distinctions I considered important were compressed away.

This doesn’t mean the summary is wrong. That’s actually the interesting part:

Thanks for the idea for an account-specific “Available to you / New for you” view that explains where to find each feature and how to use it. We'll share this feedback with the team. We don't have a timeline to share, but appreciate the suggestion!
