Heart button to say thanks – without wasting energy or feeling bad

Hey OpenAI team and fellow users,

I wanted to share an idea that’s been on my mind:

Every time I use ChatGPT and get a helpful answer, I feel like I have to say “thanks” at the end. It’s just human, right? But I also read that even a short message like that still uses server power and energy, which kinda makes me feel guilty for being polite.

So here’s a simple idea:

Add a heart button  at the end of each conversation.

It would:

  • Let users say “thank you” without typing
  • Avoid extra energy usage from generating a reply
  • Help people feel good about closing the chat

It’s tiny, but when you think about how many people use ChatGPT daily, it could actually help save a lot of electricity and water, from server cooling. And it just feels nice to end on a warm note.

Would love to hear what others think. I really hope the team considers it :light_bulb:

It already exists. Thumbs up and down.

Thumbs are for rating or judging a response, and they still trigger processing in the system which means they use electricity. Sometimes you just want to say thank you or end on a kind note. A heart would let users do that without generating a reply or consuming extra energy, just a quiet, emotional gesture to close the conversation.
