Model: gpt-realtime-mini
We have an AI agent using gpt-realtime-mini
We ask the AI Transfer to “Person” as part of our routine tests.
We hear the model confirm and then dead silence. Call is still connected, but there is a dead silence. After sometime, Realtime model asks “Are you still there”…
When we check the log, we see that the model errored and called a tool differently than it did before.
It starts correctly calling the functions - you can see highlighted in red FUNCTION CALL: below
Suddenly, then the silence starts, it calls the function CALLFUNCTION: get_caller_info
It gives us the impression that the gpt-realtime mini version is not very good using tools.
Important: The second you change to gpt-realtime, (Same code, same build, same servers, same call, Same human testing, same speech utterance, same APIKEY - everything the same) the problem immediately goes away and all tools are called reliably.
