GPT Does Excel Like Financial Spreadsheets, Not!

We have a large variety of financial spreadsheets, many of which are standard such as income statement, cashflow statement, balance sheet, etc. When GPT 4o or 01 Pro is provided with the input data, it does not seem to know how to compose a standard financial statement even though online examples abound. For example, it does not know how to compute taxes. After it was provided with the tax schedule (table), it still does not know how to compute it. After it was told how to compute it, it computed it wrong - Tried to simplify the equations we provided to versions that produced the wrong results. It does not seem that GPT is trained with fundamental accounting, for example, previous account balance - an expense item = current account balance. GPT’s own post self diagnosis states that the spreadsheet is easy for humans to understand but contains multi-step logic or reasoning that GPT cannot perform. Anyone has similar experiences?

You’re gonna wanna use the assistants api that can generate and run code.

Just a quick question - why use AI for this?
You have the data presented beautifully in a spreadsheet!
You could just caculate everything programatically, no? :hugs:

Because we would like an AI to eventually (hopefully) to modify the spreadsheet based on the consumer user prompt. For example, we would like the users to state “Here is my W2, compute my tax and let me know the what-if scenarios with a different set of deductions.”
