As a user managing multiple ongoing projects and topics, I find it challenging to keep my chats organized. A folder system would greatly improve usability by allowing users to group chats by category or topic.

Where: Three-dot menu in each chat or a dedicated settings panel.

How It Works:

  • Select Export Chat
  • Choose Format:
    • JSON: Full chat history, including prompts, responses, timestamps, and formatting.
    • Markdown/Text: Simplified export for text editing or sharing.
    • PDF/HTML: For professional-looking, easily shareable files.

Benefits:

  • Data Backup: Prevents accidental data loss.
  • Research & Writing: Organize research materials or project conversations.
  • Collaboration: Share formatted chat logs with peers or teams.

2. Chat Import Feature

Where: Side Panel or History Management Section

How It Works:

  • Click Import Chat
  • File Upload Options: Upload previously exported JSON files.
  • Automatic Sync:
    • Imported chats appear as new conversations in the side panel.
    • Original formatting, timestamps, and responses are preserved.

Benefits:

I use ChatGPT for learning alot. It’s like this super mentor and it’s incredible.

But as I kept using it, I hit a frustrating wall: there’s no way to neatly organize my conversations and things quickly became chaotic.

I’ve seen requests here stale over a year which is disappointing and that’s when I realized: if no one else was going to fix it, I would!
