It looks like File Search in Assistants API is broken, as the response is always: “I couldn’t find any specific sections in the uploaded files. Could you please provide more details or re-upload the files?”
Any idea why? is it working for you?

The vector file storage in general seems borked. I cannot even delete files from a vector in their web interface. Been that way for the last hour+

Assistant API - file search - doesn’t work for us too.
I tried also OpenAi playground - doesn’t work.
How to replicate:
- create an assistant in Playground:
– model 4.1
– tools: file search = ON. - attach 1 file: txt with some text in it;
- Response: text or json_schema.
- Ask a question about any information in the files.
- in most attempts - ChatGPT won’t be able to find that information in the files provided.
** Status of the uploaded & attached vectore store and its files: ready.
@OpenAI_Support Please fix this issue ASAP. Or at least notify us when we should expect this to be fix. This is very important!

This has happened several times already. It’s ridiculous how long it takes them to fix it. A company of this size should inspire more confidence. It seems like they are not even aware of the impact this has on so many people’s businesses." @OpenAI_Support

File Search for Assistant is not working for us as well, please help.
This is so unprofessional and i can’t depend in open ai right now. my production system is broken due to this.

I can also confirm that we have been working gon this all day - debugging all day to finally figure out it is OpenAI - confirmed even in the console - vectorstore is not readable. New SDK 5.20, released 8 hours ago - not a fix. Also, 5.19 SDK doesn’t work. Responses API is also NOT working, not just Assistants.
We are experiencing the same issue — both the Assistant API and the agent SDK file search are not functioning, and we haven’t received any related OpenAI incident alerts. Kindly let us know when this will be resolved.
@OpenAI_Support could you kindly update the Open AI Status page to reflect this ongoing issue, it would be easier to explain to our stakeholders that you are aware of this issue and that you are working on a fix. Thanks!

This started happening for us too since yesterday.
By changing the model used by the assistant to gpt-4.1, i managed to get it working again. i hope it helps you since OpenAI doesn’t really care about it.
