As a power user who relies on ChatGPT for multiple facets of my life, the current single-window interface is becoming a major bottleneck for productivity.
Right now, I am constantly context-switching between my coding projects (Codex), professional work tasks, and personal chats. Having to scroll through a single sidebar and click back and forth between these vastly different streams is inefficient and disruptive to my workflow.
I want to be able to smoothly multitask across multiple virtual desktops on my Mac. Ideally, the desktop app or web interface should support:
- Dedicated Workspaces: The ability to segregate chats into distinct categories (e.g., a “Code” space, a “Work” space, and a “Personal” space).
- Independent Multi-Window Support: The ability to pull these spaces out into separate, standalone windows or surfaces that can live on different Mac desktops simultaneously.
- Parallel Viewing: Being able to look at my coding prompts on one screen while keeping an eye on a work-related chat on another, without the app forcing a universal sync or view change.
The current design forces a linear workflow that doesn’t match how modern professionals multitask. Allowing us to spread our workflows across multiple windows and desktops would drastically improve efficiency.
Are any other Mac power users facing this same frustration? I would love to hear how others are managing this, or if the OpenAI team has separate workspace windows on their roadmap.
