I would like to suggest an improvement to the ChatGPT interface.
Currently, when starting a new chat from the main ChatGPT screen, there is no obvious way to select which Project the conversation should belong to.
Users have to navigate to a specific Project before starting a conversation, or move the conversation into a Project afterward.
This workflow is inconvenient, especially for users who manage many Projects and frequently switch between different tasks.
Proposed Solution
Please add a visible Project selector directly to the new chat interface.
Ideally:
-
Display a Project dropdown near the chat input field or at the top of the new chat window.
-
Allow users to search and select an existing Project.
-
Include a “No Project” option for general conversations.
-
Allow users to change the selected Project before sending their first message.
-
Make it immediately clear which Project the new conversation will belong to.
Why This Matters
Projects are an important organizational feature for users who work on multiple ongoing tasks.
Project selection should be part of the conversation creation process, not something users have to manage afterward.
Just as users can select a model or thinking level before starting a conversation, they should also be able to select the Project.
This relatively small UI improvement would significantly improve workflow efficiency and conversation organization.
I hope the ChatGPT team will consider adding this feature.
Thank you!
