Feature request: Reliable search, copy, and export for very long ChatGPT conversations

For users who use long conversations as a creative writing workspace, the current virtual rendering / partial rendering behavior is extremely disruptive.

I understand the goal of reducing lag and improving performance, but long-form writers need user-selectable options such as:

  • Full-text search within a single conversation
  • Reliable full conversation copy
  • Export a single conversation as TXT / Markdown / DOCX
  • Copy selected message ranges
  • A dedicated writing or long-document workspace mode

For long fiction writing, research, coding logs, and worldbuilding, a single ChatGPT conversation often becomes a workspace, archive, and reference document. When browser search, full copy, and mid-conversation navigation become unreliable, it seriously disrupts the workflow.

Please consider adding an option for users to search, copy, or export long conversations reliably.

Hey @skyonlyone, welcome to the community!

We appreciate you laying this out clearly. Using a single conversation as a writing workspace is a pretty common workflow now, so losing reliable search, copy, export, or navigation in long threads can become limiting fast.

The requests here all sound reasonable, especially:

  • full-text conversation search
  • reliable export/copy options
  • selected-range copying
  • a dedicated long-document mode

I’ve forwarded this to the team for logging, including the creative writing and research workspace use cases you mentioned.
