I would like to share feedback based on a real business project that required more than two days of work with ChatGPT. The issue is not the quality of the generated content—it’s the inability to reliably maintain and continuously build a single large structured document across many interactions.
Hello OpenAI Team, First of all, thank you for building such an impressive product. I am writing this feedback because I believe ChatGPT has the potential to become an exceptional tool for business process design, but I encountered a limitation that made it very difficult to complete a real-world project. Project Goal I am building an internal operational management standard for my company. This is not a book, an essay, or a brainstorming document. It is a professional company standard similar in philosophy and structure to systems such as: Porsche operating standards Toyota Production System (TPS) Corporate SOP (Standard Operating Procedures) manuals The expected size is approximately 20–30 pages, organized into sections and chapters. What I expected ChatGPT to produce I expected ChatGPT to gradually build a single structured document with professional formatting, including: Cover page Table of contents Executive summary Document purpose Legend Definitions Roles and responsibilities Department structure Procedures Checklists KPIs Responsibilities Escalation rules Corrective actions Continuous improvement process Version control Instead of generating isolated fragments, I expected every new request to improve and extend the same document until it became a finished operational standard. Information already provided During several conversations I invested many hours describing my company in detail. ChatGPT already received information about: Company structure Management philosophy Sales department Service department Parts department Precision Farming department Office administration Customer service Daily routines Monthly routines Campaign procedures Seasonal planning Quality standards Performance indicators Responsibilities Escalation procedures Internal communication Sanctions Operational examples Real business cases This information was already available inside the conversation. The problem Although ChatGPT had enough information to assemble the document, the result repeatedly became: small disconnected pieces; repeating previously written content; losing the document structure; forgetting where in the document it currently was; restarting sections instead of continuing them; generating one page at a time without maintaining a complete master document. As a result, after two days of work the project was still not progressing toward a complete operational manual. The issue was not a lack of knowledge. The issue was maintaining a large structured document consistently over many interactions. What would improve the experience For projects like this, it would be extremely valuable if ChatGPT could support a persistent “master document” mode where it: always knows the current chapter; keeps a stable table of contents; remembers document numbering; avoids repeating previous sections; automatically inserts new content into the correct place; preserves formatting and hierarchy; understands that the objective is a finished professional document rather than isolated answers. Why this matters Many businesses could use ChatGPT to create: Quality Management Systems SOP manuals ISO documentation Corporate operating standards Employee handbooks Internal regulations Process documentation These are projects that require consistency over dozens or even hundreds of pages. ChatGPT already has the knowledge. The missing capability is reliable long-form document management. I believe solving this would dramatically increase the value of ChatGPT for businesses. Thank you for taking the time to read this feedback.
My feedback is not about generating better text—it is about managing complex projects over time.
