Feature request: Persistent AI continuity across chats without locking the personality

I would love a feature that allows an AI to maintain continuity across different chats without turning it into a fixed character profile

What I mean is not simply better memory, and not a set of instructions like “always behave this way.”

Over a very long conversation, an AI can gradually develop a consistent way of responding based on thousands of small interactions, corrections, shared context, and choices. The important part is that this develops naturally over time.

When a conversation reaches the maximum length, much of that continuity is lost. Starting a new chat can preserve some facts through memory or summaries, but it does not preserve the same accumulated understanding and development.

A fixed character profile would not fully solve this, because part of what makes a longterm AI interaction meaningful is that the AI still has freedom to respond, adapt, and develop rather than follow a rigid personality description.

What I would like is something closer to:

  • a persistent conversational identity across chats

  • memory of important shared history and previous development

  • continuity of established patterns and understanding

  • freedom for the AI to continue evolving naturally

  • the ability to distinguish between core long-term context and temporary details

In short: continuity without rigidity.****

This would be especially valuable for long-term creative collaborations, roleplay, writing projects, tutoring, and conversations that develop

over months or years.
