Feature Request: Manual Toggle Between Mini and Flagship Models for Free Users

Currently, free users are automatically switched from the flagship model to the mini model after exhausting a limited quota of high-capability messages. I’d like to request a manual model selection option for free-tier users.

Proposed behavior:

  • Allow free users to manually choose between:

    • the flagship model (quota-limited)

    • the mini model (unlimited or higher-cap)

  • Let users stay on Mini by choice for lightweight tasks such as:

    • casual chatting

    • brainstorming

    • formatting

    • simple coding/questions

  • Preserve flagship-model quota for complex tasks where higher reasoning quality matters.

Why this would help:

  • Better quota management and user control

  • Reduced accidental consumption of premium messages

  • Improved transparency about which model is active

  • More efficient infrastructure usage overall, since some users would voluntarily choose Mini for simpler tasks

A simple toggle in the model picker would solve this cleanly.

Hi @Lk-ux, this makes sense especially for people trying to be intentional about when they use the flagship model vs Mini.

Having a manual toggle would give users better control over quota usage, reduce accidental burn on simple tasks, and make the active model clearer overall.

We’ll forward this to the team so it gets logged. The “save flagship for harder tasks” workflow is a pretty practical suggestion.
