Feature request: intelligent chat history management

Long-term ChatGPT users can accumulate hundreds or thousands of chats. The current tools — rename, archive, delete, search, and projects — are not enough to manage that history at scale.

ChatGPT should be able to help users organize their own chat history intelligently, including:

  • Bulk archive/delete suggestions

  • AI-generated summaries for old chats

  • Automatic topic clustering

  • Project recommendations

  • Colour labels or tag labels

  • “Active / Archive / Junk” classification

  • Ability to create a master archive index

  • Safe review-before-delete workflow

  • Search by remembered topic, not just exact title/text

  • Migration tools for moving related chats into Projects

Example user request:

“Clean up my history. Keep active projects visible, archive old useful chats, delete obvious junk, and create a project index.”

The assistant should be able to propose a plan, show the suggested changes, let the user approve, and then apply them.

This would make ChatGPT feel less like a pile of old conversations and more like an actual long-term assistant.

Hey @Panzakat! This is a solid idea. Once chat history gets big, simple search/archive/delete can only get you so far, so having ChatGPT help sort, summarize, group, and suggest cleanup actions would be a really useful upgrade.

I especially like the review-before-delete part so users stay in control. I can’t share a timeline right now, but I’ll pass this along internally.
