Feature Request: Inline "Mini-Chat" Pop-up for Quick Clarifications

Hello Everyone,

While using ChatGPT today, I noticed a friction point in the workflow and wanted to suggest a new feature to improve the user experience, especially when dealing with long, detailed responses.

The Problem: When ChatGPT generates a lengthy reply and I get confused by a specific concept in the middle of the text, I currently have to scroll all the way down to the main input box at the bottom to ask my question. This breaks the reading flow and often forces me to manually quote or re-explain the part I was confused about.

The Proposed Solution: It would be incredibly helpful to have an inline “mini-chat” or small pop-up window that can be triggered right where you are reading (perhaps by highlighting a specific sentence or clicking a small tooltip icon).

  • This pop-up would retain the full context of the ongoing conversation.

  • It would act as a temporary side-thread, allowing users to ask quick, targeted questions about that specific section without losing their place in the main text block.

The Impact: This would create a much smoother UI/UX experience. Users could resolve small doubts on the fly without having to constantly jump back and forth between the middle of a response and the bottom prompt bar.

Would love to hear what the community and developers think of this!

Hey @adhavgarg! Totally get the friction here. I can see how jumping all the way back to the bottom input box can break the flow when you just want to ask about one specific part of a long response.

The closest workaround right now is to branch into a new chat, which makes it easier to explore a side question or different direction without losing the original thread. It’s not quite the same as an inline mini-chat, but it can help keep the main conversation cleaner for now.

I can’t share a timeline right now, but I’ll pass this feedback along internally.

Going To a different Chat will break the context of of what i was talking for,the the answers will not be related to the topic, thats why an inline minichat that have all the context of the current chat will help as we will not have to give the context again and just ask our small doubts from between the chat

Hey @Madhavgarg, yep, that’s a fair point. Branching can help in some cases, but I get what you mean. It still doesn’t feel the same as asking a quick question right inside the current chat, with the exact surrounding context already there.

The inline mini-chat idea is clearer with that extra detail. It’s less about starting a separate direction and more about getting a quick explanation without losing your place or re-explaining the context. I’ll pass that added context along internally too.

yes you get my point right, thats what i meant, also ping me up if any update comes on that new feature(i would also love if i get the credits for that)
