Feature Request: Document Outline Sidebar

Suggestion: Add a Document Outline Sidebar in ChatGPT (Organized by Timeline)

I think ChatGPT should have a document outline sidebar, similar to Google Docs’ “Document Outline” feature. This would help users navigate long conversations more efficiently by automatically generating an outline based on key topics or questions asked in the chat.

Benefits:

:white_check_mark: Faster Navigation – Easily jump back to important questions without scrolling endlessly.
:white_check_mark: Better Organization – See an overview of the discussion structure at a glance.
:white_check_mark: Easier Recap & Review – Quickly revisit specific topics from past chats.

How It Could Work:

  • ChatGPT detects major questions/topics and lists them in a collapsible sidebar.
  • Clicking a title jumps to that part of the conversation (like a table of contents).
  • The outline is automatically arranged in chronological order (timeline-based) so users can follow the flow of the conversation naturally.
  • Users can manually edit, rename, or pin key points for easier reference.

Would anyone else find this useful? OpenAI, please consider adding this feature—it would make ChatGPT even better for long discussions, studying, and research!

(I don’t have time for writing. Quite ironic that I used ChatGPT to suggest a feature in ChatGPT. Also, I suggest adding an interactive button so you could hide it)
