I can ask Codex what reasoning mode is suitable for various tasks or parts of a multi phase plan and get very reasonable answers. Once codex understands that I am willing to adjust its reasoning level, it will even stop and ask, “Please put me in max mode for this work,” which is great. But it would be awesome if there were a way to make this more automatic. For example, it makes sense to let it do certain critical implementation work in 5.6 sol max, but then afterward to switch to low reasoning for things like polling CI to ensure a PR lands.
Hey, thanks for sharing this feature request!
I agree that allowing Codex to adjust its reasoning mode based on the task could be a useful addition, especially when balancing speed, complexity, and resource usage across different kinds of work.
I'll surface this feedback to the product team for consideration.
