Feature request: Add Codex Remote support for Linux (or hide unsupported QR pairing)

The new ChatGPT desktop app for Linux (preview) exposes Settings > Connections > Control this PC and displays a QR code. Scanning that QR code from the current ChatGPT mobile app consistently ends with “Pairing Failed.”

Environment

  • Fedora Linux (a supported preview distribution)
  • ChatGPT desktop build 26.814.41407
  • Same ChatGPT account and workspace on the phone and desktop

Expected behavior

Either:

  1. Codex Remote pairing should work with a Linux desktop host; or
  2. Until Linux hosts are supported, the Linux app should clearly explain that Remote currently requires macOS or Windows and should not display a nonfunctional QR code.

Actual behavior

The Linux app presents the complete pairing flow and a valid-looking QR code. The phone then reports only “Pairing Failed,” which makes the problem appear to be caused by the network, account, or QR code rather than an unsupported host platform.

Request

Please add Linux host support to Codex Remote and publish a roadmap or approximate availability window if possible. As a short-term fix, please gate or hide the pairing flow on Linux and show an accurate compatibility message.

The current Remote documentation lists only macOS and Windows hosts:

Confirming the same behavior on Ubuntu 24.04 LTS. Settings > Connections > Control this PC renders the QR code as expected, but scanning it from the ChatGPT mobile app always ends in “Pairing Failed”

Remote is currently documented for Mac and Windows hosts: https://learn.chatgpt.com/docs/remote. We'll share the feedback about the QR control appearing on Linux and the request for Linux support. We don't have a timeline to share.
