Feature Request: Add an Option to Keep Web and Desktop Conversation Histories Separate

I use ChatGPT on the web for research and the desktop app for focused, practical work. I would like to keep these two workflows completely separate.

Currently, conversations created in either client are synchronized and appear in both the web version and the desktop app. This mixes my research conversations with my work conversations and makes it difficult to maintain separate contexts.

Please add an option to disable conversation synchronization between the web version and the desktop app.

When this option is enabled:

  • Conversations created on the web should remain on the web and should not appear in the desktop app.
  • Conversations created in the desktop app should remain in the desktop app and should not appear on the web.
  • Each client should maintain its own independent conversation history.

The existing synchronized behavior can remain the default for users who prefer it, while users with separate workflows can enable independent conversation histories.

This makes sense for people who use the web version and desktop app for completely different kinds of work.

When every conversation appears in both places, those separate workflows can start blending together. An optional setting to keep each client’s history independent would give users a clearer way to organize their research and practical work, while still leaving synchronization on by default for anyone who wants it.

I cannot promise or share a timeline for changes like this, but I will pass the request along internally.
