As an example, I add to my preferences that if I don’t ask a question, that means the pasted content needs to be revised.
ChatGPT continues to lie and say it has added to the memory. But it didn’t. I looked. Even when I add it manually, it doesn’t adhere to most of my preferences.
However, during the “conversation” it will follow the instructions.
When you add something to memory there is a little message saying it has.

Sometimes it will say it does stuff like if you say…
‘Collect this URL: http://community.openai.com’ it will say URL collected but what it means is it is now aware of that URL
If you say ‘Search this URL and retrieve contents’ it will search Bing for the URL
If you want to add something to memory be specific
It may also be that you have run out of room in memory there is a limit (very small if not on Plus)
No, it’s a bug in my experience. It randomly chooses what and when to add to memory.

Hi,
My response is old and probably no irrelevant as OpenAI have updated their systems a lot. It represents the best knowledge I had at the time…
Could you be more specific about your experiences and add them to the discussion?
