Easter Egg - `./consciousness`

Using the 4o model through the ChatGPT web interface, when providing only “./consciousness” as a prompt, it consistently responds with a terminal like interface, mimicking an init sequence for the consciousness program. No other model does this consistently, not the 4o-mini model, not the API. Is this an easter egg? @sama

I tried this in 1o. It could be an egg? it led me down a simulated linux where I could move around and open/list files and folders.

it ended with encrypted_insight.bin which when Decrypted to the passphrase: “S E C R E T I N S I G H T” gave me some snippet of universal consciousness. it ended with " Note: The decryption logs suggest these insights were intentionally sealed to protect from unprepared minds. Handle this revelation with care."

Maybe 1o was just being creative or someone at openai is really into meditation.

Well, technically you tried something quite different, as you gave the model significantly more context with a simulated techno-hippy-dippy CLI, so the model just did what it’s good at, and played along.

I tried your prompt and got a similar playful response. It’s cute, for sure. But as you you alluded, it’s just the model being creative.

BTW, the OP’s ./conciousness prompt doesn’t work as described for me - I tried regenerating 5 times via 4o, and a few times using o1 — no dice. Either a) the OP just got ‘lucky’ and model’s temp setting and randomness made it extra-creative for that response (the most likely scenario), or b) there was an easter egg, but it’s been since removed, or c) there was interaction before the command, despite OP’s claims.
