We’re beginning to roll out a solution based on custom GPTs. It’s been an uphill battle in many ways due to the lack of documentation around how custom GPTs work. For example, getting GPTs to always run their actions is a giant mystery to us, but this is not the purpose of this post…
My question is, considering this is the developer forum for the leading LLM company on the planet, why isn’t there an AI that answers our questions similar to GitHub Apps - DosuBot · GitHub? It seems like such an obvious thing to be doing and could be of immense help. I’m suggesting this due to the derth of unanswered questions in this forum and the relative lack of documentation.
I sure hope someone from OpenAI chimes in on this thread…
Because OpenAI users/clients who come and ask questions on the forum have most likely already asked an AI for help before posting here, and they wouldn’t be here if it helped. We’re all AI enthusiasts here, this place is a last resort if GPT or Claude couldn’t solve whatever issue we had. Getting an AI to auto-reply to posts would at best be unhelpful and at worst deeply annoying.
You sometimes catch obviously* AI-generated posts on here and they are the least helpful comments around.
If you want to look up problems that have been resolved in the past on this forum, you can use the built-in search tool to search by category.
Additionally, if you meet certain criteria and become a regular member, you can unlock a bot that uses information from the forum to answer your questions.
It is also important to verify whether the information from the cited sources is accurate.
Interesting. This has not been my experience with Dosubot. That bot gets things right more often than it gets them wrong, or at the very least, it gets enough things right to be consider helpful.
Thanks for the feedback, though. I will definitely take it into account, but now I really want OpenAI to dedicate some resources to answering questions in these forums. It’s exhausting to see so many unanswered questions here, especially around GPT actions…
Hi @dignity_for_all. Thanks for the reply. I’ve tried searching but none of the existing posts were my exact problem, so, no love there.
Regarding unlocking a bot, that’s cool, but I would think that they would want to promote access to such a bot. Why is it behind a wall? (I mean, I understand the theory but I think it would be more helpful to make it available to everyone from the moment they join).
And yes, indeed, often bots make mistakes, but as is the case with Dosubot, they can often be more right than wrong.
I always think about how I can help others, even if just a little, given my limited time.
I feel sorry that I cannot directly help you, but I want you to know that there are people who want to promote solving everyone’s problems, even if just a little.
Thank you for your question! We have discussed this matter and determined that this platform should be for talking with humans, not bots. With the recent library update, most Language Model AI have up-to-date documentation knowledge. If you’re looking for one with current information, you can find Kapa AI in the OpenAI Discord community—it offers the same functionality.
Thanks for the reply @grandell1234. Who, exactly, is “we”? I originally asked for the bot because SO many posts here go completely unanswered and I was thinking if OpenAI can’t afford to staff people to answer questions here, then maybe a bot could help. I know I’ve tried to answer some questions but I just don’t know the answer. I really don’t understand what causes an action to trigger, for example. Saying “the system just knows” is not helpful, especially since, in our experience, it often gets it wrong and fails to run the action.
For people trying to build a business around custom GPTs, this lack of documentation or clarity complicates things massively.
The rest of the moderation team, dev relations, and myself.
They probably can, but it’s better to have other users answer questions.
This is sadly true, I have a few ideas for fixing this but I have other things more important to deal with. But once again you can check out the Kapa AI bot on the official OpenAI Discord.
I wouldn’t recommend attempting to build a business around GPTs since there is no confirmed revenue plan.
I would recommend checking out the assistant API docs as I believe GPTs are made with their architecture.
Thanks for the detailed reply. Much appreciated. I’ll check out those docs, for sure (alreayd have in some cases). Thanks for the idea. I do wish there was some official documentation around this, though.
