This is using the Mac OS app. I’ve started getting this recently. It shows a response to a question or prompt where it gives text in a sort of greyed out format with what looks like markdown formatting. Underneath, there is the darker text (that I presume) is the answer.
It’s annoying because it’s making it harder to keep track of the model’s replies - especially if they are unduly long.
