Dictation usability has declined—requesting restoration of key features

This post isn’t meant as criticism—it’s coming from genuine concern. I rely on dictation daily, and I hope this will be taken as constructive feedback.

Previously, dictation allowed me to see what I had typed and resume speaking mid-message. That flexibility was essential for catching and fixing speech-to-text (STT) errors quickly.

In the current version, the microphone icon disappears as soon as I begin typing—even a single character. This makes it impossible to continue dictation without deleting the entire message or copying it into another app. What was once a smooth hybrid experience is now far more limiting.

This isn’t just about convenience. It affects accessibility—especially for users who combine speech and typing regularly. It disrupts workflow and creates unnecessary friction.

I’m sharing this because I want to see ChatGPT continue improving. The old system worked beautifully. The current version introduces a significant setback that I hope you’ll consider addressing.

Other users have echoed similar frustrations, so I know I’m not alone in this. Please view this as part of broader user feedback.

And if this post happens to be flagged and locked, I’d truly appreciate a clear explanation—so I can better understand and revise it if needed.

Thanks again for all the hard work. I really believe in the potential of this platform.
