Is the description property officially supported in the JSON schema structured output option for the API?

OpenAI seems to not spell out every keyword that is employable, perhaps because this would make their techniques reproducible by competitors.
Description was one of the first fields supported with the release of functions, though, and continues to be a prominent necessity in getting good response usage as you desire – which is unique to one of the fields.
A strange response style? Only guided by description of “response_text”.
