ChatGPT remembers across sessions, yes it does

Everything I have found says ChatGPT does not remember across sessions. Even ChatGPT says that, but when I ask it about projects it says it remembers project information across sessions. (kinda)
I love that it says it will remember projects across sessions, the problem is it does not remember everything nor all projects across sessions. Some sessions have more or fewer and different amount of content. It has corrupted responses. I would create a new session to explore a topic in a new direction and it will slant the new session with old information. Since I did a few new sessions thinking I was starting off fresh this has made a big problem.
how do I start off completely fresh? I gather I will have to copy and past the information I do want to keep to use in a new session. I am also under the impression that I Have to avoid using projects when in the new sessions. How do I erase everyting ive done when I am ready?

I am going to modify this in one way. Is there a preferred way to manage projects across sessions? Maybe, I did not follow some requirement that ChatGPT needs in order to keep the info clean.

ChatGPT does not have memory across sessions. Each session is independent, and the model cannot remember past conversations or projects. Any appearance of memory is due to the model’s tendency to make connections based on the current input, not actual memory, the best way to manage ongoing projects is by keeping detailed notes outside of the chat. You can use a document or a note-taking app to track key points, ideas ect. Of course this will be something implement in the future with ChatGPT most idea’s that we can with software will evolve and be able to do so. Hopefully soon?

I’ll paste my discussion with chatgpt that counters your reply. I was surprised to start a new session and find my projects listed there. But I found out that not ever new session lists all the projects. Each session also does not have the same information for the projects. Some are identical yet different in another session. Some are all a different proportion of the project. I had started a new session since everything says it should be a blank slate, it is not.

this is part of our discussion.

No, i am just trying to figure out how the projects were kept from session to session.

The way your projects are kept from session to session is through a memory system that allows me to retain and recall information from our previous conversations. When you share details about your projects, I make notes that are saved and carried over to future sessions. This way, I can help you keep track of your work and build on our discussions over time. It’s like having a continuous thread of our conversations, so we can pick up right where we left off, even if some time has passed.

If you have any more questions about this or anything else, feel free to ask!

I found the memory settings. That is what it is seeing and remembering in each session. I dont understand why each see different parts of information on the projects, but it is all there in the memory settings.
