ChatGPT app: easier navigation of prompts/responses within each chat (quick nav buttons to jump to top/bottom of each response? table-of-contents for prompt/reaponses?)

This relates to the ChatGPT app rather than developer.

Currently it is annoying needing to scroll up through past responses, when wanting to read through the full response history in each chat.

Particularly on mobile - it is even quite cumbersome, just scrolling to the top of the most recent response to read it, when the response is lengthy.

I would like to see (1) navigation buttons to skip up to the top of each response / down to the bottom of each response and (2) something like a table of contents for each chat where I can quickly navigate to each prompt/response in a given chat thread.

Seems like something relatively simple to greatly improve the UX!

I second this feature. I have some pretty long conversations that i need to look at often. Jumping between responses is absolutely a solution but i think i would prefer a side panel that would act as a minimap or table of contents where i could jump to my prompts as well.

Indeed! I developed a chrome extension called “ChatGPT Navigator” that allows you to do that quickly.
It’s opensourced (the github repo is in the description section of the store page since cummunity won’t let me post the github url)

Oh I came here to suggest the same thing! Would totally be helpful.

Bumping this because navigating a long thread is super painful especially on mobile. I’ve wanted a way to navigate between questions for so long. It’s a real pain when there’s a good code snippet or some response text 30% in to a huge thread. Real tough to find.

As I write this I think it would also be super helpful to be able to highlight and bookmark specific text/sections/code in a thread. Maybe have these snippets or bookmarks automatically stored in a notebook or at least a section like “bookmarks” for each thread (like how Kindle does it). It would be especially cool if we could automatically sync this to Notion and other note app integrations as well.
