ChatGPT 4 Slow/Hangs in Chrome Browser

As I mentioned, the delay is much more significant on my pc using a Chrome browser. When on my iPad and iPhone I use the app, not a browser.

And your pc has Windows as operating system?

I have the same experience. It is very fast on the Android app, but it has become super slow and is constantly hanging on long threads in Chrome using Windows. Oftentimes, Chrome says the page is unresponsive and asks if I want to wait or reload it. The tab uses between 270-550 MB of memory.

Yes, my pc is running Windows 10.

I am experiencing the same issues. In some cases, it even causes Chrome to freeze when using GPT, making it unresponsive to both mouse and keyboard inputs.

I’m using Chrome on Linux.

OK so the slowness is proportional to how long your context is. It gets really bad with long contexts. This is just text, a few kb in total so its kind of ridiculous that there is any lag and using 25% cpu or whatever, utterly insane. I think it must be to do with the websocket pipe that comes in and the way they have structured the DOM. But honestly I don’t know how a webpage that only really is displaying HTML is having such issues.

Whatever it is, please fix it, investigate it, and come out with a native Linux app or allow us to use our chatgpt plus accounts in a third party tool

Hi Folks,

Hello!
That link is not very helpful. ChatGPT freezing the browser on long chat histories / context is a well known bug and the internet / this forum is full of discussions about it. Was an issue / bug ticket created ? Where can we track it ? What is the status ?

The only workaround is creating a new context every few days - or otherwise, it gets so insanely slow that working with it is impossible. (Yes, it makes sense to continue a context over along time, e.g. when you are doing a project over a year)

Greetings, M

Well I’ll be darned - opened a new chat to continye my project and its as quick as could be…same bat-channel, same bat-time.

Yup. Same issue. I have trained my chat and it is super long. So I can use to answer my FB comments and email replies. When I use my iOS APP, it works fine without any lag. But when I use the same chat on Google Chrome, it simply lags badly. It seems to be the issue of google chrome processing large previous history in the chat that we are working on. I tried to download ChatGPT APP for my MAC, but it only supports Apple silicon. Does not work with the intel chipset. So I am at loss here. Wish chat GPT can just load last 5 or 10 responses to the existing chat, so google chrome does not get hand up on the history of data with javascript.

I’ve tried that recently for other issues but can’t find a way to submit a ticket. It seems to be self help only now - providing articles, etc.

The lag is still pretty extreme on my pc (other processes/sites are very fast). Do you know if this issue is getting any attention for possible resolution?

Having the same issue on mac and ubuntu, using chrome

Same issue here. Keep bringing it up everyone. This is unacceptable.

Yeah that is ridiculus! nearly unusable.

Seems there is no interest to fix that.

the the other AI’s have this problem? seems a huge selling point to switch.

Tell it what you’re experiencing, ask it to explain why it’s happening, and ask how you can improve performance. It’ll tell you. Do what it says and performance will improve. I did these things and it’s been much better.

I just resolved my issue by turning off most of my extensions. I think my Quillbot and Grammarly extensions were slowing me down. But i disabled just about all my extensions and its working good now.
