I send one message, I can edit it just fine. The second I send a new message, the first message becomes permanently locked out of editing. I can’t even reroll ChatGPT’s responses. This feels like a bug, because this cannot be beneficial in any way. Has anyone else got this?
That’s just utter nonsense…
So it’s going to stay this way permanently..?
You can freely edit on Mobile, just whatever you do don’t update. It’s clunky, but its the only workaround we have.
You can edit comments if you have previously edited them by clicking the previous message button.
Either way, if this change is permanent, it may be time to switch to another AI company, as this would ruin my workflow.
Last time I read that page, it clearly said:
“You can edit only your most recent message in a conversation.”
The archived version is here:
web_archive_org /web/20260321024011/help.openai.com/en/articles/11909943-gpt-53-and-gpt-54-in-chatgpt
Now the same page says:
“You can edit any of your messages.”
These are completely different descriptions, yet I saw no announcement about the change.
