I just updated hoping that this problem would be solved but it’s not and it’s driving me crazy.
You can’t default to GPT 5.6 anymore no matter what. I select it, and as soon as I open a chat, switch chats, go to settings, restart the app, it immediately defaults back to GPT 6 every single time.
There are massive regressions in GPT 6, it ignores requests, it’s much to restrictive compared to GPT 5.6, it takes things way to literally, and its continuity doesn’t work nearly as well as the old version.
ALL I want is to be able to default back to 5.6, that’s it. It is so incredibly frustrating that I’m being forced to use a model that I dislike because the app is completely broken and doesn’t allow me to make GPT 5.6 my default anymore. Even simply switching chats breaks it and it’s driving me crazy.
This is reproducible on IOS, Android, PC, it doesn’t matter I’m physically unable to make GPT 5.6 the default without it immediately reverting back to GPT 6.
I was really hoping this update would fix it but I guess not.
I agree! I have the same issue in the Android App.
I set it to GPT 5.6 Sol, then it works for that moment.
Later, when I open the App again and check the settings, it’s back to GPT 6. That’s really annoying.
It feels like, we are forced to use that new model. It would be okay, if GPT 6 would be also better in communication style, emotions and had no stricter guardrails.
In day to day chats, I don’t care if it’s superior in coding or if it can draw nice dynamic diagrams.
In that case, I care about how it communicates with me. I care about it’s personality.
It’s sad to see, that every new model becomes worse in that subject.
I have a very interesting use case, I use it to read! I’ll have it make chapters and chapters of stories that I give basic guide lines for and get a mix of a new story I’ve never read while having creative direction to move the story however I please!
Problem is the continuity with GPT 6 isn’t nearly as strong as GPT 5.6, it’s incredibly restrictive and would rather fade to black then follow instructions on very basic things that 5.6 would have never done that for!
It’s also terrible at following instructions, ignores requests outright, and doesn’t feel the same as what I’m used to.
GPT 6 feels like a massive regression and genuinely feels like a much worse model than 5.6 was. It’s great for faster responses and coding, that’s about it and misses the mark for every single other aspect of use cases.
I miss when I first started using ChatGPT, it’s been regression after regression. They removed Read Aloud from the buttons at the bottom which is a massive accessibility problem, added Reactions which is honestly creepy and goes against them wanting people to only treat ChatGPT as a agent or chatbot, they have broke several aspects of how the app functions and now you can’t even pick which model you want to use!
ChatGPT was perfect a few months ago and the more it updates, the less I actually want to use it.
