Yes, the model page was updated to be correct within a day of release. Native image generation is not exposed.

If you use the internal image_generation tool for images on the Responses endpoint, be mindful that you are picking the image-creation model that you’ll use also, not letting OpenAI decide.

Images of conversation are placed into the model context like an “edits” and you can be billed for many input images per tool use, and where “input_fidelity”:“high” is forced on “gpt-image-1.5”, that can be $0.05+ per input image.
