Use WebMCP to give AI agents a direct way to work with your website:
Site tools are ChatGPT’s implementation of the proposed WebMCP standard. With WebMCP, a website can offer useful actions directly to an AI agent alongside the interface people already use. You and the agent can work with the same live page and signed-in session.
In the built-in browser in the ChatGPT desktop app, ChatGPT Work and Codex can discover and use these tools when they are available.
This feature is extremely versatile. For example, it could be used as an upgraded version of Custom GPTs:
Imagine the following architecture:
Your private ChatGPT Site
→ user signs in
→ Site identifies/authorizes that user
→ Site exposes its functionality/data through WebMCP
→ the user’s ChatGPT Work/Codex is the LLM
→ ChatGPT calls your Site’s WebMCP tools with skills, assets and tools
We are excited to see and experience what you will build with this tool!
