App widget flickers / rerenders when ChatGPT is done answering

Since Friday we are seeing this issue where the app widget flickers / re-renders once ChatGPT is done answering the user’s question. Further interactions with the widget are fine, but going in or out of full screen mode will also have the widget flicker many times. We have seen this happening with our app (still in development) but also with the Target app that is live, both desktop and mobile. Please see recording.

Is OpenAI actively working on the Apps SDK? Is this a known bug? There has been nothing in the changelog for the past month now.

Would love to hear from other developers if you are experiencing the same, and if you have found a fix to this issue? It is quite frustrating to see OpenAI making breaking changes on live environment behind the scenes, which is slowing us down in our development process.

Having the same issue, linked to react state being lost when going from inline to fullscreen

Same here.
I created another issue with a way to reproduce the bug ChatGPT App Mobile rendering issue

Yeah, that sounds disruptive, especially when it's affecting both your dev app and a live one like Target's.

Just to dig a bit deeper, aside from the flickering, have you noticed the widget acting up in other ways? Stuff like layout shifts, slow loads, or it freezing up? Also curious if the same behavior shows up in browser. Sometimes that helps isolate the issue.

If you’ve spotted any errors in the console or UI, even a vague message or screenshot could help piece this together.

Let us know what you’re seeing and we’ll try to figure out what’s going on.
