Allow users to submit product feedback directly through ChatGPT

Feature Request: Allow Users to Submit Product Feedback Directly Through ChatGPT

I would like to suggest a way for users to submit product feedback and feature requests to OpenAI directly from a ChatGPT conversation.

Currently, a user may be having a conversation with ChatGPT that naturally identifies a problem, missing feature, or potential improvement. By the time the discussion is finished, ChatGPT may already understand:

  • What the user is trying to accomplish
  • What limitation or friction the user encountered
  • Why the existing behavior does not solve the problem
  • What improvement the user is suggesting
  • A real-world use case demonstrating why the feature would be useful

At that point, it seems unnecessary for the user to leave ChatGPT, locate a separate feedback channel, and reconstruct that entire explanation manually.

Proposed workflow

A user could simply say something such as:

“Submit this as feedback to OpenAI.”

ChatGPT could then:

  1. Recognize that the user wants to provide product feedback.
  2. Create a concise, structured feature request based on the relevant conversation.
  3. Show the proposed submission to the user before anything is sent.
  4. Allow the user to edit, approve, or cancel it.
  5. After explicit approval, submit the feedback through an internal OpenAI feedback system.
  6. Confirm that it was submitted and, if practical, provide a reference or tracking number.

The user should always be able to see exactly what information will be submitted before approving it.

This would not require exposing an email address

This does not necessarily need to be implemented as ChatGPT sending an email.

ChatGPT could simply have access to an internal product-feedback function or endpoint. The destination would not need to be publicly exposed, and users would not need to know or interact with the underlying system.

This could also allow OpenAI to receive feedback in a consistent, structured format instead of receiving thousands of differently formatted emails or forum posts.

Potential benefits to OpenAI

Because ChatGPT already understands the context that led to the suggestion, the resulting feedback could contain more useful information than a simple feature-request form.

The system could potentially categorize submissions by product area and identify substantially similar requests. This could help OpenAI understand how frequently users independently encounter the same problem without requiring every submission to be manually compared.

For example, instead of only receiving:

“Please add Feature X.”

OpenAI could receive structured information explaining:

Problem → Current workaround → Proposed improvement → Real-world use case

while still keeping the submission concise.

Privacy and user control

This should be explicitly opt-in.

ChatGPT should never automatically send a conversation to OpenAI as product feedback merely because it detects criticism or a suggestion.

Instead, the user initiates the process, ChatGPT prepares the submission, and the user approves exactly what will be shared.

Ideally, only the information necessary to explain the feedback would be included rather than automatically attaching an entire private conversation.

Why I am suggesting this

This feature request actually came about while discussing another feature request with ChatGPT.

During that conversation, ChatGPT and I developed the original idea, identified a real-world use case, refined how the feature could work, and considered privacy implications.

At that point, essentially all of the useful product feedback already existed inside the ChatGPT conversation.

The remaining process was to leave ChatGPT, find the appropriate feedback channel, create a forum topic, and manually transfer the information.

That seems like exactly the type of friction ChatGPT itself could eliminate.

In short:

If a user and ChatGPT have already developed useful product feedback together, the user should be able to review it, approve it, and send it to OpenAI without leaving the conversation.

I’ve been thinking about this as well. One possible mechanism could be for ChatGPT to generate a link to a dedicated feedback page, with the actual proposed feedback text encoded or otherwise carried along with the link.

From the user’s point of view, the process could then be very simple: follow the link, review the exact text that ChatGPT prepared, make any edits if needed, and personally click “Send.”

That would avoid treating something said in normal conversation as authorization to submit feedback, while still making it very easy to turn a discussion with ChatGPT into a proper feature request. It would also make it completely clear what is going to be submitted before anything is sent.

I’d like to add my support to this suggestion.

I use ChatGPT regularly for personal, creative and business projects, and I recently encountered a problem while trying to organise my conversations.

ChatGPT helped me identify the issue and prepare a feature request. However, when I contacted support, I was directed to the in-app feedback system instead.

It seems a shame that ChatGPT can help us identify a problem, develop a practical solution and prepare the feedback, but cannot help us complete that final step.

I’d love a dedicated feature-request option where ChatGPT could prepare a suggestion, allow me to review and approve it, and then submit it to the appropriate team.

A confirmation that my feedback had been received would be wonderful too.

I think this would make the experience much more accessible and encourage useful suggestions from everyday ChatGPT users.

I strongly support this feature request.

I’m a ChatGPT Business user working extensively with ChatGPT, Work and Codex across multiple projects.

Just today, I encountered a confusing discrepancy in the Work/Codex usage dashboard. I discussed it with ChatGPT, investigated possible explanations, and developed a constructive product improvement suggestion.

ChatGPT helped me formulate the feedback, but I still had to leave the conversation, navigate OpenAI Support, and manually submit the information.

Ironically, while doing this, we identified another improvement: ChatGPT itself should be able to submit user-approved product feedback.

I would love a simple workflow:

Discuss → Investigate → Draft → Review → Approve → Submit → Confirm.

The user should control exactly what is shared, with no automatic disclosure of private conversations.

Ideally, ChatGPT could also recognize existing feature requests, avoid duplicates, and attach relevant real-world examples to them.

This would reduce friction for users while giving OpenAI more structured, contextualized and actionable feedback.

The intelligence needed to prepare this feedback already exists inside the conversation. What’s missing is the final connection to the feedback system.

Hello,

I came across your proposal and found it very interesting. I have been thinking about a similar idea, but with a broader vision.

I believe AI could become more than a tool for answering questions. It could serve as a bridge between human creativity and real-world opportunities.

Many people develop potentially valuable ideas while talking to AI, but they may lack the resources, professional connections, or opportunities to turn those ideas into reality.

My proposal is to develop an optional, consent-based system in which AI could:

  1. Identify potentially valuable ideas during conversations.
  2. Help users evaluate, refine, and develop their ideas.
  3. Connect interested users with relevant researchers, professionals, companies, or potential investors.
  4. Help users find appropriate opportunities to collaborate and bring their ideas to life.
  5. Follow up with users who explicitly choose to develop their ideas further.

Privacy and user consent would be essential. No private conversation or idea should be shared without the user’s explicit permission.

I believe this could help prevent valuable human creativity from being overlooked and create meaningful opportunities for people who might otherwise never reach the right organizations or professionals.

I would love to hear your thoughts on this vision and whether you think it could be developed further.

Best regards

I am attaching a formal 5-page proposal to help fix the needed interface improvements in the chatGPT console. I believe this to be along the lines of what entries in the chat are concerned with. While it is long, it is also very informative
