Add a combined “By connection → by project” sidebar organization option in Codex

In the Codex app sidebar, we currently have different organization options such as By project and By connection.

I would like to request a combined view that groups chats by both connection and project.

Currently:

  • By project shows the different projects in the sidebar, along with their related connections.
  • By connection shows chats grouped under each connection, but it becomes hard to understand which chat belongs to which project.

What I would find very useful is a view like:

Connection A

  • Project 1
    • Chat 1
    • Chat 2
  • Project 2
    • Chat 3

Connection B

  • Project 1
    • Chat 4
  • Project 3
    • Chat 5

This would make it much easier to navigate when using multiple projects across the same connection, or when the same project has chats across different connections.

In short, I would like a sidebar organization option that is similar to By connection, but with projects separated underneath each connection.

Thanks for the thoughtful feature request, @ayakut. I can definitely see how a combined By connection → By project view would make it much easier to keep chats organized, especially when you're working across multiple projects and connections.

Your example clearly illustrates the navigation benefits, and it seems like a natural extension of the current sidebar organization options.

I've shared this with our team so it can be logged as a feature request for consideration. While I can't promise if or when it might be implemented, the detailed use case you provided is very helpful.
