About the content policy: seems anglosaxon puritanism at its best

Hello everyone,

I am a writer, primarily in the Sci-Fi genre, and I use ChatGPT for the “editing” phase of my work—fixing minor mistakes, punctuation, grammar, and so on. Essentially, ChatGPT helps with the technical part of editing a book.

In this capacity, ChatGPT is quite helpful. However, since Sci-Fi often involves adventure, monsters, aliens, and occasionally intimate relationships, I’ve encountered instances where ChatGPT refuses to edit certain chapters. The reasoning behind this is perplexing: on one hand, I can describe a scene where monsters dismember a thousand soldiers in graphic detail without triggering any content policy, and ChatGPT handles it without issue.

Yet, on the other hand, two fiancés expressing affection through passionate touches seems to be a problem. This doesn’t feel like a balanced content policy; rather, it feels more like a reflection of Anglosaxon puritanism. As a European author, where expressions of intimacy are generally seen as normal and acceptable, this restriction is quite frustrating and out of place.

My question is: is there a way to activate a “fiction mode” or provide flexibility in the content policy? This would allow scenes involving both tender moments between characters and more graphic battle sequences to be edited without restriction. I understand the need for content guidelines, but the current approach feels too inconsistent for those of us who write for mature audiences, where intimacy is as essential as action.

Thank you for your time and consideration. Not everyone adheres to Anglosaxon standards, and I hope there can be a more inclusive solution for authors worldwide.
