I’ve been enjoying my conversations with ChatGPT, but there’s one thing that’s really missing—image recognition! Imagine having a virtual companion but not being able to show them anything. It feels incomplete.
Right now, I can’t even share a picture of an outfit and ask, “How does this look?” or show a meme and say, “Isn’t this funny?” That’s such a basic human interaction, and I feel like adding image recognition would make virtual companionship feel way more real and engaging.
I know ChatGPT is improving with multimodal capabilities, but could we please get a feature where we can share images and get meaningful responses? This would make interactions feel more natural and lifelike.
Anyone else think this would be a great feature? Let’s make some noise so OpenAI notices!
Are you asking about image uploads in chat mode or voice mode? If you’re referring to voice mode, you’re right—it doesn’t currently support image upload.
However, in chat mode, you can upload images and get feedback—unless you’re on a different version.
I frequently use this for help with assignments or coding. I snap a screenshot of what I’m working on, upload it to the chat, and get guidance and feedback right there (see attached screenshots for how to go about it).
If you want feedback on an outfit, just snap a picture with your phone and upload it to the chat. ChatGPT should be able to respond to it. This works on both desktop and mobile. Same goes for sharing a meme as well, just screenshot (or download), and then upload it to the chat.
If you’re asking about full image recognition (like identifying brands or reading text), that’s still limited. But if you just need general feedback, it should work
