Hi I hope this can get some attention as I believe it’s a significant issue on the Windows app.

The Windows Desktop app continues to run into issues with 740 “The requested operation requires elevation” when executing powershell. It needs to use the node REPL for operations, which it only figures out after failing the first 3 times or so.

This causes results to be slow, lots of noise, and tons of extra token usage. It regularly runs into issues executing certain things with Chrome/Playwright/plugins/external programs etc.

This started happening right after you pushed the update for connecting to Codex via mobile, and continues today.

There have been some resolutions and improvements to this (I believe it’s fixed in the CLI) but I haven’t seen many posts specifically about this problem in the Windows app.

Had same issue before (0.137 approx), but it was fixed since for me (I’m on 0.140.0 I think). Try to run codex to debug it after a web search about similar issues reported in this forum.

And make sure you’re on latest version of codex.

@sergeliatko Are you talking about the CLI or the Windows app?

If you’re talking about the windows app I’d expect you to be giving a version number like `26.616.31447`.

Like I mentioned

> I believe it’s fixed in the CLI

I’m using the very latest Codex app.

The issues I had were essentially in the CLI but I imagine(d) they are somehow connected. the versions I have:

app: 26.616.32156 (updated recently)
codex: v0.141.0

What do you have as settings inside the Codex app for the following options?

Global:

> Integrated terminal shell
> Choose which shell opens in the integrated terminal.

(I have powershell)

Current project:

> Approval policy
> Choose when Codex asks for approval

(approve for me)

> Sandbox settings
> Choose how much Codex can do when running commands

(workspace write)

> Allow network access
> Allow network access when the sandbox is set to workspace write

(on)

I suspect it may be the thing… mine runs in auto approval (has to ask for elevated permissions) - maybe your setting somehow conflicts with “full access” ? Don’t know, need an expert in codex app (good potential for docs?)

Yep I suspected that too… but when I have it in that mode, and I ask it to execute some elevated powershell it just says 740 error and then proceeds to Node REPL. Thanks for your time

search and turn on “openai DOCs” inside “skills”

start a new session with “No project” and it’ll use home dictionary.

select “GPT-5.5” at medium or high level

tell him all your problem and ask it to fix it.
