Why is OpenAI Community quietly unlisting legitimate technical feedback?

I’ve noticed concerning pattern where admins are unlisting topics that contain legitimate, well-founded criticism of Chatgpt’s technical limitations. These posts become ghost topics, accessible only via direct links with the message “This topic was manually unlisted by an admin or moderator.”

Developer communities thrive on honest technical discourse. When we start hiding critical analysis of model failures, inconsistencies or limitations we are essentially creating echo chamber. Real developers need real talk about what works and what doesn’t.

Many of these ‘unlisted’ posts contain detailed breakdowns of specific failure modes, edge cases or inconsistent behaviors. This information is gold for other developers trying to work around limitations or understand model behavior. By hiding it, you are actively making the community less useful.

Nothing screams “we can’t handle criticism” like quietly hiding posts that point out legitimate issues. It makes OpenAI look insecure and creates suspicion about what else might be getting suppressed. Transparency builds trust. Shadow banning destroys it.

When developers cannot openly discuss problems they cannot collaborate on solutions. Some of the best workarounds and insights come from community members sharing their struggles and findings. Unlisting these discussions breaks that collaborative loop.

If legitimate technical criticism gets unlisted, what’s next? Where’s the line? This kind of moderation creep typically gets worse over time not better.

I get it, nobody likes negative feedback. But mature companies use criticism as fuel for improvement. The community should be place where we can honestly discuss both the impressive capabilities and the frustrating limitations of these models.

TL;DR: Stop unlisting legitimate technical criticism. It makes community less valuable, erodes trust and goes against everything a healthy developer community should represent.

PS: This post just got unlisted automatically. You literally can’t make this stuff up.

UPDATE: Plot thickens. This post is now set to auto-delete in 24 hours. From unlisting to scheduled deletion all for discussing forum moderation. The system is literally demonstrating my point in real-time.

Hi there — your post looks off-topic. This is a developer community: a space for developers building apps with OpenAI APIs and tools to have technical discussions with other developers.
