but it’s not photoshop and has other “limitations” (but equally a lot of benefits)
Other smart models like Gemini does not change the ratio. I will go for it. I really don’t get why GPT did this…
have you tried just starting by always asking the model to recreate the image in the new aspect ratio without cropping, adding padding as necessary, then proceed with editing?
ultimately then, the user could crop the final image as necessary.
yeah, it comes with risks
got a feeling she lost some height in the legs
“Recreate this image exactly with appropriate padding in the landscape format”
Yeah, I tried… but no it’s not good. I mean the API MUST return original ratios for image editing. For image generation, I could understand you limit ratios. But for image editing, your are cropping the original image, does not make sense.
It’s a totally reasonable feature request. Can’t talk for how easy that will be to implement …
So wrap the input image in more white space, padding it out in all dimensions, at the same time that you make it conformant to an existing size so all that needs to be done is “edit”.
The developer must inherently support the user and application with value addition.
Exactly. If OpenAI solves this for you, then they solve it for thousands of other businesses and you have no moat.
lol guys… yeah I will ask my users to do all these things, every time they upload an image to just modify it… are you crazy ? lol
No, he means pre-process the image yourself as part of your service
Come on… such a mess just because the API does not the OBVIOUS thing
Again, I will go for other models.
All good, grab all you can eat.
But it’s not that simple.
You don’t have control over the users image background colour, nor texture.
This particular example is relatively easy, though of course her background is not perfect white, either.
Yeah, users can upload any type of image ratios and content. if you resize to fit one of the API ratios, the only way to do it without cropping and losing original image info, is adding spaces on the sides. That will look horrible.
If you green screen it cant that just be removed?
Admittedly it’s not really that easy and you are better off putting one size in and have the same size out…
“change all color behind the lady to green screen, retain shadows”
Now you are starting to over estimate the equipment the users have at hand, I suspect
Well anyways, I really hope they solve this. A lot of API users will be limited by this. The GPT image tech is really good, but here is an obvious thing that must be solved.
I think we are going too far haha
