Yes, you can cancel your Plus subscription at any time and resume it again at any time after that.

Hi, I am not associated with OpenAI in any capacity, so I don’t have any inside information. I do know from what they have publicly communicated they seem to consider it an important model and I expect they are working hard to restore access to it.

Can you please provide us with an update for the web browsing plugin …

Hello its July now and I still dont have access to the web browsing feature, but to the Plugins but Code Interpreter. What am I missing

The issue that I have is that I upgraded (paid my $20) on July 25th. There was no alert on the upgrading process that the Bing Browse feature was not available. I specifically upgraded because I need the most recent available information when doing market (semiconductor industry) research. Basically, I have thrown $20 away as I do not see a path to get a refund.

First, I understand you are frustrated—I get that. The Browse with Bing feature is (at least in theory) pretty awesome, and it would be wonderful if it were available.

That said, this does confuse me,

Was there any indication at any point in the process that upgrading to ChatGPT Plus would give you access to the Browse with Bing model?

It did not, so I’m not sure why you would think Plus would automatically grant you access to the Browse with Bing model.

Additionally, the Browse with Bing model is a beta product. Beta products routinely come in and out of service all the time. They are inherently unstable and their availability should not be relied upon.

Finally, the Browse with Bing model has been offline for over three-weeks now and OpenAI has been quite open about that.

When you write,

I’m also confused because, unless I’m mistaken, you are getting exactly what was advertised and what you paid for.

You should have access to faster responses, better access during heavy-load periods, and early access to GPT-4 and whatever other beta features are available at the time, which to the best of my knowledge is all that was ever offered and as specific as they ever got.

Thanks for your reply.

The benefits you stated are not actually valuable (to me) when the basic capability provides data with a 2021 cutoff. I need to access as current as possible industry activities and announcements. I will use the Microsoft Edge/Bing Chat capability until I see that OpenAI has turned Bing back on.

Do you happen to know if there are any 3rd party plugins for ChatGPT 4.0 that could serve as search engines for more “current” information?

Regards,

DaveK

Yes, there are several third-party plugins that add browsing functionality. Search the the plugin store for “browse”

There are several plugins which provide access to the live internet, many which frequently perform better than Browse with Bing did as it was blocked by many sites robots.txt file.

I think the most popular plugin for accessing the live internet is the Web Requests plugin.

I do not personally recommend the Web Requests plugin because

reasons

they use a service called “Promptate” to inject irrelevant advertisements into the model responses (though they don’t actually seem to work)

But the plugin is very popular and does allow you to get live web results into the context of your chats. You can try it (and others) to see if they meet your needs. Note: The developer of Web Requests (@JD_2020) is an active member of this forum and genuinely a very nice person, I am sure they would be happy to hear how the plugin works for you and help you to maximize its effectiveness.

That said, you could also definitely “roll-your-own” plugin to access the web more specific to your needs—especially if your data tends to come from the same few places or is typically in some standard format—while running a local API if you add yourself to the plugin developer waitlist.

All that said…

Welcome to the community!

I really do hope you stick around and engage more with the other people here who are all on this same crazy ride with you. I definitely learn something new everyday reading about what others are doing, the problems they’re having, and the solutions the community comes up with.

When you find something that works for you, I encourage you to come back and start a new topic sharing what you’ve learned with others as I am sure many would find it valuable to read about any bumps you encounter and how you overcame them.

I wish you luck with everything you are hoping to achieve!

Currently the statement about the Web Browser plugin (Browse with Bing) missing from ChatGPT Plus is true.

Can you clarify where you saw that? I know this is widely stated (ref) but if it is from the official OpenAI documentation and as the plugin is currently unavailable then the documentation needs to be updated.

Yup we know this, but I think it’s pretty clear that you also know the only reason why any of us subscribed was specifically for the web search feature.

I upgraded to Chat GPT plus and i dont see the browsing option. And when i ask some new information, i am getting response of can not brose in real time and have information upto sept 21.

How to solve that issue ?

The feature was deactivated a month ago due issues with paywalls in certain websites. Does anyone know when the feature will be reactivated?

I loved it, one of the main reasons why I got ChatGPT Plus.

So just put the option as we pay for this.

Thank you !
