Where is the door for independent, non-technical researchers and founders?

I’ve been noticing what feels like a gap between “AI is for everyone” and the people OpenAI has built formal pathways and communities around. People who already have technical skills, institutions, capital, or established companies.

Looking at the current ecosystem, there seem to be very clear doors for:

Developers/builders → API, Build Hours, starter repos, technical resources, etc.

Established businesses → Business/Enterprise products and support.

Academic researchers → dedicated research programs with institutional/academic eligibility.

AI/societal-impact researchers → research-access programs with institutional, research-organization, or nonprofit eligibility.

But where is the equally obvious door for someone like this?
Independent researcher + aspiring founder + non-engineer + not currently an established company + wants to use AI seriously for research, business, and building something meaningful.
Not looking to become a developer.
Not a formal academic researcher.
But a researcher in the sense that investigate questions, develop ideas, connect different fields, and want to use AI to substantially increase what can be accomplished.

So my question to the OpenAI community is:
Is there actually a place for people like this in the current OpenAI ecosystem/community?
If there is, where is the door?
If there isn’t, then doesn’t this make a non developer or non technical individual feel useless, unwellcome or an outsider?
And if there isn’t, isn’t this a meaningful gap?
Because when the visible pathways are overwhelmingly designed around developers, institutions, established companies, and formally affiliated researchers, a non-technical independent person can easily come away feeling that AI is something they are supposed to consume, rather than something they are invited to participate in and build their future around.

I’m curious whether other independent researchers, non-technical founders, strategists, creators, or people working outside traditional institutions have experienced the same thing.

Where do we fit?

One additional observation: I initially looked for a place in the OpenAI Community to raise this question and was surprised to encounter a ChatGPT category disclaimer explicitly framing the space as being for developers discussing technical topics. That experience itself reinforced the question I’m raising here: where is the obvious community/pathway for non-technical independent users who want to participate seriously in the AI ecosystem?
