What is Q*? And when we will hear more?

This is noise. It’s distracting and not at all constructive. But still, I’m replying and this post has had over 16K views already. It’s the media pushing emotional buttons for a story. Why are we wasting our time on this?

Q* doesn’t matter. The real question is when will we see AGI? The answer is, nobody knows. Not anyone in the media, anyone posting here, or anyone posting anywhere else online.

AGI will happen. Technology will continue to enable more and more, with less and less, until everything can be done with nothing - ephemeralization. That term was coined 85 years ago. But I’m sure long before that, others realized the same eventuality. So, technology has been on a trajectory towards AGI for a long time.

Maybe AGI is already here, or maybe it’s decades away. We’ll only know for sure when we experience it for ourselves. At that point, it might be the beginning of the end, or the beginning of an incredible new era. Again, we don’t know. We just speculate and let our emotions (both fear and excitement) get the best of us.

Is it irresponsible to move too fast? Maybe. Could it also be irresponsible to delay progress? That’s a possibility too. What if we knew AGI could save the human race from some impending natural existential threat? Would we still want to pump the breaks? There isn’t a right or wrong answer here and there never will be - just opinions.

So, maybe we try to ignore the noise and decide to use our limited time and mental cycles in more productive ways.
