Voice-to-Text Not Working in Foldered Threads on Mobile (GPT-4o and Others Affected)

Hi all — I’m experiencing a persistent issue in the ChatGPT mobile app (Android) where voice-to-text stops working inside any thread that’s located in a folder.

After extensive testing, I’ve found the following:

:white_check_mark: Voice-to-text works in these conditions:

GPT-4o, GPT-3.5, and GPT-4 threads outside of folders

Threads that were never inside a folder

Immediately after starting the app and using a non-foldered thread

:cross_mark: Voice-to-text fails in these conditions:

Any thread inside a folder, regardless of model

Threads that were moved into a folder, or created fresh inside one

GPT-4o threads seem to trigger the problem, but it eventually spreads to other models (GPT-3.5, GPT-4, Tasks) inside the folder

I also get the message:

“An error has occurred. Please try again later.”

when opening foldered threads — this may be related.

:hammer_and_wrench: Troubleshooting I’ve already done:

Updated the app (latest version, June 2025)

Cleared app cache and storage

Logged out and back in

Rebooted phone

Uninstalled and reinstalled the app

Tested across multiple folders and models

:light_bulb: Suspected cause:

It seems that foldered threads — especially after using GPT-4o — fail to fully initialize voice input services. Once it happens, the voice system stops working inside all threads in the folder, even after a full app reset.

:folded_hands: Would love help with:

Confirmation from other users

A fix or patch from the OpenAI dev team

Workarounds that allow GPT-4o + voice-to-text inside folders

Thanks — happy to share screenshots or detailed logs if needed.
